An unexpected increase in a metered bill is a reason to look more closely at water use. Check whether the bill uses actual or estimated readings and whether household use has changed. If those explanations do not fit, a leak may be worth investigating.
Signs worth noting
- A sudden rise in metered consumption
- Similar household habits but a much higher bill
- A meter that continues to move between periods of use
What happens next
Compare the meter reading with the bill, then review visible fittings and normal appliances. A running toilet can be easy to miss. Where unexplained flow remains, checks on the private supply and internal pipework help establish where to focus.
Before you contact us
Keep the bill, dated meter readings and any water company correspondence. Note changes in occupancy, irrigation or appliances so the investigation can consider those as well.
From the findings to the fix
Do not assume that a high bill proves an underground leak. The investigation should distinguish ordinary consumption, visible leaks and concealed pipe losses. We can trace and repair a confirmed plumbing leak and provide a report of the findings.
For residential work, the £1,195 total includes investigation, access, the plumbing repair, parts and materials, testing and a report. The £100 booking deposit is deducted from the total. Commercial instructions are quoted separately.
Decorative and remedial reinstatement after access is excluded. The repair workmanship comes with a 12-month warranty. We explain the job before the appointment is confirmed.

GOOD TO KNOW
Your questions, answered.
Can I ask my water company about a leakage allowance?
Ask your water supplier about its current rules and the evidence it requires. Eligibility and any adjustment are decided by the supplier.
How does the £100 deposit work?
First, contact us about the leak. Once the job and appointment are confirmed, we send you a payment link for a £100 booking deposit. This is deducted from £1,195, leaving £1,095. Sending an enquiry does not take a payment or confirm an appointment.
Will you need to lift floors or open walls?
Detection helps narrow down the source before access is made. Some leaks require floors, walls, ceilings or external surfaces to be opened so the pipe can be repaired. We explain what is needed and aim to avoid unnecessary disruption.
Can I claim through my insurance?
We provide a detailed Trace & Access report for you to submit to your insurer. Acceptance and reimbursement depend on your policy, excess, limits and insurer’s decision. Check any approval requirements with your insurer before work begins.
