Tracer gas can help locate a leak in an appropriate isolated pipe circuit. Specialist equipment detects the tracer escaping from the pipe, adding another source of evidence where there is little visible water or limited leak noise.

How we investigate
The engineer assesses whether the pipework can be isolated and prepared for the method. A suitable tracer mixture is introduced under controlled conditions, and sensitive detection equipment is used along the suspected route. Readings are interpreted alongside the building and ground conditions.
Before the appointment
We may need access to isolation points and permission for a temporary interruption to the affected system. Tell us about shared supplies, sensitive equipment or occupants who need advance notice.
From the findings to the fix
Gas can travel through gaps and materials, so a reading must be interpreted rather than treated as an automatic excavation instruction. Tracer gas is one tool within the investigation, and is selected where it is appropriate.
For residential work, the £1,195 total includes investigation, access, the plumbing repair, parts and materials, testing and a report. The £100 booking deposit is deducted from the total. Commercial instructions are quoted separately.

Is tracer gas used on every investigation?
No. We choose the methods suitable for the pipework and symptoms. The package includes appropriate detection methods without an additional charge for selecting tracer gas.
How does the £100 deposit work?
First, contact us about the leak. Once the job and appointment are confirmed, we send you a payment link for a £100 booking deposit. This is deducted from £1,195, leaving £1,095. Sending an enquiry does not take a payment or confirm an appointment.
Will you need to lift floors or open walls?
Detection helps narrow down the source before access is made. Some leaks require floors, walls, ceilings or external surfaces to be opened so the pipe can be repaired. We explain what is needed and aim to avoid unnecessary disruption.
Can I claim through my insurance?
We provide a detailed Trace & Access report for you to submit to your insurer. Acceptance and reimbursement depend on your policy, excess, limits and insurer’s decision. Check any approval requirements with your insurer before work begins.
