Water escaping from a pressurised pipe can create sound that travels through the pipe and surrounding materials. Acoustic equipment helps an engineer listen for and compare these sounds at accessible points.
When this service can help
- A suspected underground supply leak
- Water loss on a pressurised pipe
- A concealed leak with no visible wet area
- A need to narrow the excavation position
How we investigate
We select suitable listening points and compare the character and strength of the sound. Pipe material, pressure, depth, background noise and the surface all influence the result. Other checks may be used to support or challenge an acoustic finding.
Before the appointment
Access to the meter, stop valve and suspected pipe route can help. Let us know about noisy machinery, traffic restrictions or other site activity that may affect the investigation.
From the findings to the fix
Acoustic investigation is especially useful when it can be combined with knowledge of the pipe route. Quiet leaks or sound travelling along a pipe can make interpretation less straightforward, so we keep the wider evidence in view.
For residential work, the £1,195 total includes investigation, access, the plumbing repair, parts and materials, testing and a report. The £100 booking deposit is deducted from the total. Commercial instructions are quoted separately.
Decorative and remedial reinstatement after access is excluded. The repair workmanship comes with a 12-month warranty. We explain the job before the appointment is confirmed.

GOOD TO KNOW
Your questions, answered.
Can you hear every leak?
No single method finds every leak. If acoustic evidence is limited, the engineer may use other appropriate methods within the investigation.
How does the £100 deposit work?
First, contact us about the leak. Once the job and appointment are confirmed, we send you a payment link for a £100 booking deposit. This is deducted from £1,195, leaving £1,095. Sending an enquiry does not take a payment or confirm an appointment.
Will you need to lift floors or open walls?
Detection helps narrow down the source before access is made. Some leaks require floors, walls, ceilings or external surfaces to be opened so the pipe can be repaired. We explain what is needed and aim to avoid unnecessary disruption.
Can I claim through my insurance?
We provide a detailed Trace & Access report for you to submit to your insurer. Acceptance and reimbursement depend on your policy, excess, limits and insurer’s decision. Check any approval requirements with your insurer before work begins.
